Barry Douglas, one of the most versatile and brilliant pianists of his generation, will perform Sunday, Oct. 5, at the University of Wyoming.

Described as “one of the best pianists of his generation,” Barry Douglas will open the University of Wyoming Cultural Programs concert series Sunday, Oct. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.

Tickets cost $23 for adults, $19 for senior citizens and $10 for students. Tickets are available at the Wyoming Union or Performing Arts box offices, online at www.uwyo.edu/culturalprograms or by calling (307) 766-6666.

Douglas launched his career by winning the gold medal at the Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow (the only other westerner ever to win the gold was Van Cliburn). For his services to the United Kingdom, he received an OBE (Order of the British Empire) from Queen Elizabeth in 2002 and, in 2009, Douglas became the first performer ever to receive an honorary degree from UW. To quote the citation, "although he commands venues with princes and kings, he has provided accessible concert opportunities across the state and the Rocky Mountain region.”

Sunday’s concert marks the ninth time Douglas has performed at UW.
