UW College of Education Interim Dean Michael Day launches a 23-county tour in southwest Wyoming Sept. 16-18.

University of Wyoming alumni, friends, educators and others in southwest Wyoming have opportunities to meet next week with UW College of Education Interim Dean Michael Day and mark the college’s 100th anniversary.

Receptions are planned Tuesday, Sept. 16, in Kemmerer; Wednesday, Sept. 17, in Evanston; and Thursday, Sept. 18, in Rock Springs to launch Day’s 23-county tour to commemorate the College of Education centennial.

“I’m excited to get out and around the state to connect with our many alumni and friends, celebrate a century of service to the state, and seek input on the significant plans we have for the future,” Day says.

All of the receptions are open to the public, and no RSVP is required. Light refreshments will be served.

-- The Lincoln County reception begins at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 16 in the Kemmerer Senior Citizens Center, 105 JC Penney Drive. For more information, contact local organizer Harvey Nishi at (307) 231-2800.

-- The Uinta County reception begins at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Evanston Machine Shop, 1440 Main St. The local contact is Phil Petersen, (307) 444-3649.

-- The Sweetwater County reception begins at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Rock Springs Historical Museum, 201 B. St. The local contact is Chad Banks, (307) 362-3209.

In addition to the public receptions, Day is scheduled to visit Sept. 16 with school officials, staff members and students at Afton Elementary School, Star Valley Middle School and Star Valley High School; and participate in interviews with local media representatives.

In Uinta County Sept. 17, he’s scheduled to meet with local school officials and tour facilities in Mountain View, Lyman and Evanston before the evening reception. A visit to the Evanston Early Child Development Center also is planned.

In Sweetwater County Sept. 18, his activities will include a visit to Green River High School and the Expedition Academy, and a meeting with education majors and alumni at Western Wyoming Community College.

The College of Education kicked off its 100th anniversary celebration last weekend with a series of events on the UW campus.
