UW, NCAA Resolve Volleyball Program Violations

September 2, 2014

The University of Wyoming has taken appropriate actions in response to rules violations within its women’s volleyball program, and no further penalties are forthcoming, the NCAA has concluded.

The NCAA’s Division I Committee on Infractions determined that the issues at hand -- impermissible benefits provided by the former coaching staff to student-athletes, and participation of a student manager as a practice player -- constituted Level 3 (secondary) violations. UW self-reported the violations in early 2013.

Actions already taken by UW were appropriate and sufficient to address the violations. Those actions include additional training for coaches and vacating some volleyball team victories from 2009-12.

“We are happy this has been resolved, and we look forward to the future of our volleyball program,” UW Athletics Director Tom Burman says. “We have always and will always expect our staff to abide by the NCAA and Mountain West Conference rules. Those expectations will not be compromised.”
