UW Trustees Approve Personnel Items

September 15, 2014

The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees approved the following appointments during its meeting Friday, Sept. 12.

Administrative Appointment

Office of Administration/Office of General Counsel

Nell Russell as associate vice president for Human Resources and Diversity. She received a B.S. in political Science from Northeastern University, and an M.S. in Education Administration from the University of Akron. Russell was the associate vice president for diversity at UW from 2004-2012. For the past two years, she has worked as a consultant with UW and other institutions on diversity issues.

Faculty Appointments

College of Agriculture and Natural Resources

Department of Plant Sciences

James J. Heitholt as professor. He received a Ph.D. (1984) in crop science from the University of Kentucky. Heitholt has been a crop physiologist and professor at Texas A&M since 2014. He will serve as department head in Plant Sciences.

Gustavo M. Sbatella as an assistant professor. He received a B.S. (1990) in agricultural production from the Universidad Nacional de Buenos Aires, and an M.S. (2004) and a Ph.D. (2006) in agronomy from UW. He has been an assistant professor in weed science at the Central Oregon Ag Research Center at Oregon State University since 2011.

William L. Stump as an assistant professor. He received a B.S. (1981) in plant protection from Purdue University. He received an M.S. (1984) in weed science, a B.F.A. (1991) in graphic design, and a Ph.D. (1997) in weed science, all from Colorado State University. Stump has been a research scientist in the department of plant sciences at UW since 1998.

Department of Veterinary Sciences

Holly Ernest, as a professor. She received a B.S. (1980) in biology from Cornell University, an M.S. (1982) in veterinary physiology and pharmacology, and a D.V.M. (1986), both from Ohio State University, and a Ph.D. (2001) in ecology from the University of California, Davis. Ernest has been an associate professor in residence at UC Davis since 2010.

College of Arts and Sciences

African-American and Diaspora Studies

Kerry L. Pimblott as an assistant professor. Pimblott received a B.A. (2005) in American studies from Kings College, and a Ph.D. (2012) in history from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Pimblott has been a visiting assistant professor in African American and Diaspora Studies at UW since 2012.

Department of English

Michael Edson as an assistant professor. He received a B.A. (2003) in English from Virginia Tech, and an M.A. (2005) and a Ph.D. (2011) in English, both from the University of Delaware. Edson has been an assistant professor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks since 2011.

Arielle Zibrak as an assistant professor. Zibrak received a B.A. (2003) in English from the University of Rochester, and an M.A. (2007) and Ph.D. (2013) in English, both from Boston University. Zibrak has been a lecturer in English at Case Western Reserve University since 2013.

Department of Geography

Chen Xu as an assistant Professor. Xu received a B.S. (1999) in electronic engineering from Sichuan University, an M.S. (2005) in computer science from Sam Houston State University, and a Ph.D. (2010) in geography from Texas A&M University. Xu has been a post-doctoral research fellow at George Mason University since 2010.

College of Business

Department of Accounting

Xin (Shawn) Xu as an assistant professor. He received a bachelor of economics (1998) from Tsinghua University, a master of accounting (2001) from the University of Michigan Business School, and a Ph.D. (2009) in accounting from Michigan State University. Xu had been an assistant professor at the University of Michigan-Flint since 2009.

Department of Economic and Finance

Suman Banerjee as an associate professor. Banerjee received a B.S. (1989) in economics from the University of Calcutta, an M.A. (1992) in economics from the University of Dehli, an M.A. (1996) in economics and a Ph.D. (1999) in finance, both from the University of Iowa. Banerjee has been an assistant professor of banking and finance at Nanyang Business School since 2008.

Felix Naschold as an assistant professor. He received a B.S. (1994) in economics from the University College London, an M.S. (1995) in development economics from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, and a Ph.D. (2008) in development economics from Cornell University. Naschold has been a visiting professor at UW since 2011.

Department of Management and Marketing

Elizabeth A. Minton as an assistant professor. She received a B.A. (2008) in business administration from the University of Alaska, an M.B.A. (2009) from Idaho State University, an M.S. (2013) in marketing and a Ph.D. (2014), both from the University of Oregon. She has taught undergraduate courses at the University of Oregon.

College of Education

Department of Secondary Education

Mark E. Helmsing as an instructor. He received a B.S. (2004) in history, English, and secondary education from Indiana University, and a Ph.D. (expected 2014) in curriculum, teaching and education policy from Michigan State University. Helmsing has been a graduate instructor at Michigan State University since 2009.

College of Health Sciences

Family Medicine Residency Program – Cheyenne

Leena D. Myran as a clinical assistant professor. She received a B.S. (2000) in management information systems, and a Pharm.D. (2012), both from UW. Myran has been a pharmacist at Northern Colorado Medical Center since 2013.

School of Nursing

Rebecca C. Carron as an assistant professor. She received a B.A. (1979) in English literature from the University of Missouri, a B.S. (1979) in nursing from Texas Christian University, a B.A. (1997) in music, and an M.S. (2006) in family nurse practitioner, both from UW, and a Ph.D. (expected 2014) in nursing from the University of Colorado, College of Nursing. Carron has been a FNP at the Dermatology and Laser Center since 2006.

Sarah A. Kooienga as an assistant professor. She received a B.S.N. (1983) from Rush University, an M.S. (1988) in nursing from the University of North Carolina and a Ph.D. (2006) in nursing from Oregon Health Sciences University. Kooienga has been an assistant professor at Washington State University since 2010.

School of Pharmacy

Jared Bushman as an assistant professor. He received a B.A. (2003) in biology and biochemistry from the University of Utah, and an M.S. (2005) and a Ph.D. (2009) in biomedical genetics, both from the University of Rochester Medical Center. Bushman has been an assistant research professor at Rutgers University since 2009.

WWAMI Medical Education Program

Robert P. Onders as a clinical assistant professor. He received a B.S. (1993) from Kent State University, and an M.D. (1997) from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. Onders completed his residency at the UW Family Practice in Casper. Onders has been a family medicine physician at Kodiak Area Native Association since 2009.

College of Law

Danielle R. Cover as an instructor. She received a B.A. (1994) from the University of Maryland, and a J.D. (1997) from Tulane University, Law School. Cover has been a visiting assistant professor at the University of Baltimore, School of Law since 2012.

Suzan M. Pritchett as an assistant professor. She received a B.A. (2001) in religious studies from Grinnell College, an M.A. (2004) in gender and international development from the University of Sussex, Institute of Development Studies, and a J.D. (2008) from the University of Iowa. Pritchett has been a visiting professor in the College of Law at UW since 2011.

Tara Righetti as an assistant professor. She received a B.A. (2005) in environmental design, and a J.D. (2007) from the University of Colorado. Righetti has worked for Berkeley GeoImaging, LLC since 2007.

University Libraries

Cynthia D. Hughes as an assistant librarian. She received a B.A. (1994) in religion from the College of William and Mary, and an MLIS (1996) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Hughes has been a cataloging librarian at Mount Olive College since 2004.

Brian Ricupero as an assistant librarian. He received a B.A. (1996) in political science from Boston University, and an MLIS (2012) from the University of Kentucky. Ricupero has been at the University of Louisville since 2007.

Research and Instruction

Judith E. Pasek as an assistant librarian. She received a B.S. (1977) in natural resources from the University of Michigan, an M.S. (1980) in entomology from the University of Missouri, a Ph.D. (1987) in entomology from the University of Nebraska, and an MLIS (2013) from Wayne State University. Pasek has been a science librarian at the University of Colorado Boulder Libraries since 2013.

Janel Seeley as an assistant lecturer. She received a BSW (1991) in social work from St. Cloud State University and an M.A. (2001) in adult education from Appalachian State University. Seeley has been a graduate research assistant at the University of Tennessee since 2012.

College of Education

Department of Professional Studies

Tiffany Dobler as an assistant lecturer. She received a B.A. (2001) in elementary education, creative arts emphasis, and a masters of Special Education (2005) from the University of Northern Colorado. Dobler has been the special programs division director at the Wyoming Department of Education since 2012.

College of Health Sciences

Division of Kinesiology and Health

Gretchen Sewczak-Claude as an assistant lecturer. She received a B.S. (2003) in neuroscience and psychology and a Doctor of Physical Therapy (2007) from Regis University. Sewczak-Claude has been a physical therapist since 2011.
