University of Wyoming employees and students are invited to take an up-close look at UW’s new “front door” Monday, Nov. 3, from 3-5 p.m.

The open house for the UW community at the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center is in addition to the facility’s public grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday, Oct. 24, to which UW employees and students are invited.

The Nov. 3 event, specifically for the UW community, is intended to acquaint faculty and staff members and students with the new facility, and show them how it can be a resource for their campus units. UW employees are allowed two hours of release time to attend the open house, and refreshments will be served.

Funded entirely through private support, the 67,000-square-foot facility is a place for prospective students and families to enter the university; for gatherings of current students and campus units; for alumni to arrive and celebrate the history of their alma mater; and for employers to interview and recruit UW students.

“The Gateway Center is a real showpiece and will give visitors an impressive first impression of UW, in addition to providing a wonderful location for a variety of campus functions,” UW President Dick McGinity says. “It truly is a showplace for UW, and I encourage everyone to come see it -- and find out how to best use it for the benefit of the university’s numerous programs and constituencies.”

The Nov. 3 open house will include tours of the Gateway Center -- its public areas, including the Grand Atrium and Legacy Hall, where interactive video and digital displays tell the story of UW’s history and its academic achievements -- along with offices of the UW Alumni Association, the UW Office of Admissions, the Center for Advising and Career Services, and the UW Foundation.

Ample, free parking is available in the War Memorial Stadium parking lot immediately to the north of the Gateway Center.
