Three UW Choirs Perform Fall Concert

Three of the University of Wyoming choirs will present a fall concert Friday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. The event is free and open to the public.

The Bel Canto Women’s Chorus, directed by UW Department of Music Assistant Professor Holly Dalrymple, will sing folk music from around the world: an Irish lament with violist Leslie Fox; a fiery Hungarian dancing song; a French tune about a singing rooster; and an American bluegrass standard, “Will the Circle Be Unbroken,” with banjo and upright bass provided by Warrie Means and Katie Schulz.

The women also will sing two traditional Bel Canto pieces: the Gaelic blessing “Deep Peace” and “Song of Ruth.”

The UW Singing Statesmen, under the direction of UW Department of Music Associate Professor Nicole Lamartine, will perform a Georgian folk song about a goldsmith; a moving selection of “O vos omnes” by Pablo Casals; a jaunty German tune by Robert Schumann; and two American folk hymns. Music graduate student George Schrader will be guest conductor.

The UW Singing Statesmen were recently selected, through audition, to sing at the National Association for Music Education conference in Spokane, Wash., next February.

The UW Happy Jacks will add variety and pizazz with arrangements of contemporary pop tunes completely a cappella to close out the evening.

For more information, contact Lamartine at (307) 766-5242 or email choir@uwyo.edu.
