The Wyoming Assistive Technology Resources (WATR) Program will celebrate a grand opening of its new open lab hours Thursday, Nov. 13, from 1-4:30 p.m. in Room 151 of the University of Wyoming College of Health Sciences Building.

The renovated lab facility has an equipment loan program. Items such as communication devices and assistive technology to aid in daily living, vision, hearing and learning may be loaned for six weeks to clients statewide.

Many devices will be available to try at the open house, including assistive technology for daily living, vision, hearing, employment and learning. No appointment is necessary.

“These improvements offer access for individuals and more space to provide education, training and technical assistance to individuals and small groups,” says Wendy Alameda, WATR project coordinator. “The new lab provides two distinct areas for demonstrating assistive technology devices for individuals, educators and caregivers.”

WATR will have open lab hours every Thursday between 1-4:30 p.m. except during holidays. Private sessions or assessments are available for more information about devices.

WATR is a resource for all assistive technology (AT) needs in Wyoming. AT may be a device or solution that enhances an individual's ability to live, play or work independently. AT can take the form of a device, tool or adaptation that supports people when participating in everyday activities and settings. The program is a part of the Wyoming Institute for Disabilities in the UW College of Health Sciences.

For questions, email WATR at watr@uwyo.edu or call (307) 766-6187.
