UW Alumni Association Celebrates 120th Anniversary

March 26, 2015

The University of Wyoming Alumni Association (UWAA) is celebrating 120 years of service.

Eight UW graduates gathered to organize the University of Wyoming Alumni Association March 26, 1895. They planned to “promote the university interests and the affiliation of its graduates.”

Since then, the association has served UW by keeping alumni connected to the university, helping alumni get good jobs and providing scholarships to deserving students. Today, there are more than 119,000 alumni worldwide.

“I would like to thank our 18,700 UW Alumni Association members and ask alumni who haven’t joined yet to become members,” says Keener Fry, the association’s executive director. “Members play a crucial role in increasing the value of every UW degree. Membership gifts provide funding for scholarships, awards, network and chapter events, alumni career services and much more. As part of our 120th celebration, we are offering special, discounted dues of $20 for a six-month membership or $120 for a three-year membership.”

Alumni may join the UWAA by calling (307) 766-4166 or by visiting www.uwyo.edu/alumni.

“I congratulate the UW Alumni Association on its 120 years of service to the university, its alumni and students,” says UW President Dick McGinity. “Alumni support through the association contributes to academic excellence, enhances student scholarships and career opportunities, and strengthens alumni participation in all aspects of university life.”

The Alumni Association will conclude its 120th anniversary celebration Saturday, April 18, with a gala at the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center. Fry says the celebration will provide a unique opportunity to recognize the contributions of the UWAA to UW throughout its 120-year history. Highlights of the evening will include a reception, dinner, entertainment from multiple UW student performers, videos, awards and recognitions.

To make a reservation, call (307) 766-4166 or visit www.uwyo.edu/alumni.
