“The Memory of Genocide and Building Reconciliation in Cambodia” is the topic of discussion in a spring seminar series Friday, April 17, at noon in Room 229 of the Cheney International Center at the University of Wyoming.
The Human Rights, Ethics and Justice Research Cluster will present Nicole Crawford, UW Art Museum lecturer, and Isadora Helfgott, UW Department of History assistant professor. They will discuss their collaboration with Cambodia’s Sleuk Rith Institute, the nation’s foremost organization for commemorating and remembering atrocities committed under the Khmer Rouge. The institute is a leading regional center for genocide studies.
Crawford and Helfgott are consultants to the institute, which is developing a permanent Museum of Memory being built in Siem Reap, the capital city of Siem Reap Province in northwestern Cambodia. They also are winners of the 2015 Faculty Award for Promoting Internationalization presented by the UW International Board of Advisors for their work.
The free public presentation is in conjunction with the UW Center for Global Studies Faculty Research Series.
