“The Modern Romantic,” a contemporary chamber music concert, is featured in the University of Wyoming Department of Music’s spring Faculty Recital Series Friday, April 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the UW Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts. The performance is free and open to the public.

The concert has a 19th century feel for trombone, piano and mixed brass. UW Department of Music Lecturer Mark Soueidi, on trombone, will be joined by graduate student Sarah Kim on piano and other members of the brass faculty for a collection of revered classics.

Soueidi joined the UW music faculty in fall 2012, teaching trombone and performing with the faculty brass quintet. He studied at the University of Montana, earning his bachelor of music in trombone performance. His orchestral experiences in Montana began early with performances with the Billings, Bozeman and Glacier symphony orchestras. Soueidi also had a four-year appointment with the Missoula Symphony Orchestra as an undergraduate.

He continued his studies with famed trombonists Frank Crisafulli and Michael Mulcahy at Northwestern University, where he earned a master’s degree in music. He performed with renowned conductor John Paynter.

Soueidi recently won the principal trombone position with the Billings Symphony Orchestra, a position his former teacher, Jim Robertson, held for 28 years.
