Country singer Josh Turner will kick off the football season with a Sept. 4 concert at UW.

The Cowboy KICKOFF concert and pep rally returns to the University of Wyoming Friday, Sept. 4, featuring country singer Josh Turner.

This exciting start to the football season is fast becoming a UW tradition, according to Bob Price, regional vice president of Townsquare Media (KOWB and KCGY radio in Laramie), who is producing the event in cooperation with UW.

The Cowboy KICKOFF will be at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex on the UW campus. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m., and the entertainment will begin at 6 p.m.

The Pokes host the University of North Dakota in War Memorial Stadium Saturday, Sept. 5. Kickoff will be announced at a later time. Special concert and game ticket packages will be available.

“Last year’s concert was a tremendous success, helping to bolster excitement for another football season, and we look forward to the event as it becomes an annual UW tradition,” says Nick Popplewell, assistant UW athletics director for marketing and branding.

Turner, an award-winning country music star whose No. 1 hits include “Why Don’t We Just Dance,” “Your Man,” “Would You Go With Me” and “All Over Me,” will be the featured performer.

“Last year's concert was an amazing event thanks to the support from the community, and we are looking forward to having an even bigger show this year for the UW and Laramie community,” says William Evans, UW Residence Life and Dining Services associate director.

People attending the concert are encouraged to bring small folding chairs or blankets for seating. No outside food or drink will be permitted, but concessions will be available on site at the Madrid Sports Complex.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Advance tickets cost $30 for adults, $20 for UW students with ID, and $10 for children under 12 years of age. Adult and student tickets purchased at the gate will be $10 higher. Concert and game combination tickets also are available for $60.
