Cliff Harbour, associate professor in the Department of Professional Studies in the University of Wyoming’s College of Education, is the 2014-15 recipient of the UW James C. Hurst “Each Student-A Person” Award.

Cowboy Parents, UW’s parent organization, established the award to recognize members of UW's faculty or staff who go above and beyond their normal responsibilities to personalize the student experience, and who create a warm and caring environment for students. The award recognizes James C. Hurst, who was UW's vice president for student affairs from 1981-2000. Hurst is remembered for his warm and caring demeanor, wisdom and dedication to student success.

Harbour received nominations from five different doctoral students. These students praised Harbour for his positive influence on their academic experiences.

“He has a charisma that is rare and exudes empathy, compassion and a deep commitment to his students. I have never had such a tremendous mentor and cheerleader -- I could not have made it this far in my academic journey if it weren’t for Dr. Cliff Harbour,” one student wrote.

“Dr. Harbour is humble, genuine, truly dedicated to his craft and field, and shares all of these traits with his students. He is the type of person we should all strive to be,” another student wrote.

Other nominees for the 2014-15 James C. Hurst “Each Student-A Person” Award were Kem Krueger, associate professor in the School of Pharmacy; Gerald Daniels, temporary lecturer in the Department of Mathematics; Tracey Owens Patton, professor and director of the African American & Diaspora Studies Program; and Charles “Chuck” Mason, professor in the Department of Economics and Finance.

This award is one of many services sponsored by Cowboy Parents to help enhance student success. To learn more about Cowboy Parents, visit www.uwyo.edu/cowboyparents.
