A reception for the exhibition “Experiencing Ice” will be Thursday, May 7, from 5-7 p.m. in Gallery 234 in the lower level of the University of Wyoming Union. The exhibition is on display through June 4.

The show consists of photographs and prose poems by Master of Fine Arts candidate Manasseh Franklin from Pleasant Valley, Pa. Refreshments will be provided at the reception.

Franklin’s work attempts to relay the awe-inspiring sensation of being in the presence of a glacier. Glaciers have become the prime example of climate change, she says.

“In losing glaciers, we are losing many things, but we are also losing a piece of earth,” Franklin says. “At once dangerous, commanding and quickly changing, they are also musical, enrapturing, enchanting.”

The digital photographic prints combine both landscape and portraiture to create a documentary narrative. The combination of poems and photographs allows the viewer to experience the sensations in multiple mediums.

UW Visual and Cultural Arts sponsors the event. For more information about Gallery 234, visit www.uwyo.edu/union/cac/gallery234/.
