UW Hires New Medical Education Director

A physician who has worked in private practice and as a family residency program director has been selected as the University of Wyoming’s director of medical education.

Dr. Kevin Murray will serve as the designated institutional official for accreditation of UW’s graduate medical education programs, the family medicine residency programs in Casper and Cheyenne, and as chief executive officer of the Educational Health Center of Wyoming (EHCW). He also will oversee Wyoming’s WWAMI Medical Education Program.

“Dr. Murray’s background is a perfect fit for our needs,” says Joe Steiner, dean of UW’s College of Health Sciences. “He is excited to be working at UW, and I am looking forward to working with him on Wyoming’s health care needs.”

Murray will begin his job at UW June 1.

The EHCW is a federally qualified health center under the Health Resources and Services Administration, providing an umbrella for the clinic operations at both residency programs in Casper and Cheyenne.

WWAMI, meanwhile, is a partnership with the University of Washington School of Medicine in which the students spend their first years of education at their home site in Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho and their clinical years at various sites in the five states. The program started in 1997, and more than 100 WWAMI graduates now practice medicine in Wyoming.

Murray received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine and completed a family medicine/family practice residency at the Tacoma Family Medicine Residency. He also has certification in medical management and National Institute of Program Director Development.

His career includes being a vice president and medical director for a primary care health system, a family medicine residency program director at two different programs, and private medical practice.
