UW Nordic Ski Team Collecting Donated Items

Members of the University of Wyoming’s nationally recognized Nordic ski team are collecting unwanted items from students, faculty, staff and Laramie community members through the summer as part of the club’s annual Trash 2 Treasures fundraiser.

Collected items will then be sold at “extremely discounted rates” to incoming and returning students in the fall, says UW co-Nordic ski Coach Christi Boggs. Possible donated items include furniture, refrigerators, microwaves, lamps, rugs and other household items. Clothes will be donated to the Clothing Cottage.

Trash 2 Treasures is a community project sponsored by the UW Nordic ski team, Sustainability Club and SLCE (Service Leadership and Community Engagement) office, and the Clothing Cottage. During the next week, club members will conduct targeted pick-ups at apartment complexes and residence halls.

“You also can drop your items off any time at the War Memorial Stadium parking lot. Just look for the T2T trailer and banner,” Boggs says.

After this week, items will be picked up by team members. Email Boggs at cboggs@uwyo.edu to arrange a pick-up time.

Nordic ski team members will clean all donated items and store them throughout the summer to sell Saturday, Aug. 30, on Fraternity Row.

“This is a great opportunity for people looking for dorm room items, apartment or housing items, especially for foreign exchange students and freshmen,” Boggs says. “Any items that are not sold will be donated to charity organizations in the Laramie community. The goal is to keep thousands of pounds of useful items out of the landfill and provide an inexpensive alternative to buying new in the fall.”

The UW Nordic ski team is a recognized student organization with Boggs and Rachel Watson serving as volunteer coaches/advisers.

“The ski team makes a conscious effort to be as environmentally friendly as possible and would love it if people would be willing to help support our endeavor,” Boggs says. “This is a win-win situation for the donator, ski team and buyer.”
