Cowboy State fans have the opportunity to vote for the University of Wyoming as the Rocky Mountain and Southwest region’s top outdoor school.

Elevation Outdoors Magazine, based in Boulder, Colo., is sponsoring a 32-school “Bracket Brawl Top Adventure College Tournament” in an NCAA basketball-type tournament bracket competition.

The online competition is underway, and each week’s winners advance to the tournament’s next round. To vote for UW, visit the website at www.elevationoutdoors.com/top-adventure-college.

Colleges and universities meet in head-to-head matchups in the 32-school bracket. Each week, the school receiving the most votes advances to the next round. Larger schools with more than 11,000 students go head to head on one side of the bracket, while smaller schools with fewer than 11,000 students square off on the other side.

UW is on the large-school side of the bracket and is paired with Red Rocks Community College in the opening round.

“The finalists from each side face off in a ‘David-meets-Goliath’ championship to determine the best outdoor school,” says Elizabeth O’Connell, Elevation Outdoors Magazine associate publisher.

She says the 32 colleges and universities were selected for their outdoor clubs and curricula; commitment to outdoor and environmental initiatives; the quality of outdoor athletes and programs; and opportunities for adventure.

The round of 32 is during the week of May 11-18; the Sweet 16 is May 18-26; the Elite 8 round is May 26-June 1; the Final Four is scheduled for June 1-8; and the championship round is set for the week of  June 8-15.

For more information, contact O’Connell at (303) 449-1560 or email elizabeth@elevationoutdoors.com.

Central Wyoming College in Riverton and Northwest College in Powell also are among the 32 schools in the field.

Other colleges in the competition are: Adams State University; Boise State University; Colorado College; Colorado Mesa University; Colorado Mountain College; Colorado State University; Fort Lewis College; Grand Canyon University; Metropolitan State University; Montana State University; Naropa University; Northern Arizona University; and Red Rocks Community College.

Also, Regis University; Rocky Mountain College; San Juan College; Sierra Nevada College; Southern Utah University; University of Arizona; University of Colorado-Boulder; University of Colorado-Colorado Springs; University of Colorado-Denver; University of Denver; University of Idaho; University of Nevada; University of Northern Colorado; University of Utah; Western State Colorado University; and Westminster College.
