A free public reception to celebrate new summer exhibitions and to welcome attendees of the conference “Our Place in the West … and Beyond: Wyoming at 125” will be held Thursday, June 11, from 6-8 p.m. at the University of Wyoming Art Museum. Refreshments will be available, and music will be provided by local musicians J Shogren Shanghai’d.

Seven new exhibitions are on view at the UW Art Museum for the summer, four of which were organized to coincide with Wyoming’s 125th statehood anniversary celebrations: “South Pass: Wyoming Arts Council Biennial 2015”; “The Modern West: The American Landscape after the Frontier”; “Western Visions: William Gollings, Conrad Schwiering, and Hans Kleiber”; and “Blackfeet Indian Tipis: Design and Legend.”

Additional exhibitions are “Miniature: Small Contemporary Works”; “Gods, Goddesses, and Kings: 17th-19th Century Persian and Indian Miniature Paintings”; and “New Acquisitions: The Art Museum Collection.” For more information about these exhibitions, visit the Art Museum website, www.uwyo.edu/artmuseum.

“Our Place in the West … and Beyond: Wyoming at 125,” sponsored by the Wyoming State Historical Society, UW Libraries, the UW American Heritage Center and others, celebrates the 125th anniversary of Wyoming’s statehood. For more information about the conference, visit the website http://wyoshpo.state.wy.us/Preservation/HPPresentations.aspx.

For more information, call the Art Museum at (307) 766-6622, visit its website, or follow the museum on Facebook and Instagram.

Through its “Museum as Classroom” approach, the UW Art Museum places art at the center of learning for all ages. Located in the Centennial Complex at 2111 Willett Drive in Laramie, the museum is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is free.
