UW Trustees Set June 15 Meeting Agenda

June 10, 2015

A six-member committee of the University of Wyoming Board of Trustees is scheduled to recommend details of the search for a new UW president during a meeting of the full board Monday, June 15.

The meeting begins with a 10 a.m. executive session in Salons D and E of the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center, with the presidential search discussion slated for 11:45 a.m. All meetings are open to the public except for executive sessions.

The presidential search planning committee -- whose members are Trustees Mel Baldwin, Dave Bostrom, John MacPherson (chair), Mike Massie, Jeff Marsh and Michelle Sullivan -- is charged with presenting a plan for the mechanisms, timeline and other details of the presidential search. Those details are expected to address the potential use of a search consultant; appointment and membership of a search committee or committees; vetting of candidates; and efforts to keep the public informed.

That committee solicited input on the presidential search process from the public electronically and during two open forums this spring. Additionally, the committee held a series of meetings with UW students, faculty, staff and administrators to seek advice on how the search should be conducted.

President Dick McGinity recommended, in March, that trustees initiate a search for a new president to succeed him at the conclusion of his contract in summer 2016. The board already has voted to publicize the names and application materials of finalists for the job, and to bring them to campus, and possibly other locations in the state, during the initial weeks of the spring 2016 semester.

Those with input on the search are still invited to email their ideas to UW.Presidential.Search@uwyo.edu. A presidential search Web page has been established at www.uwyo.edu/presidentsearch, and people can offer comments there as well.

Other items are on Monday’s board agenda.

Board President Dave Palmerlee and new College of Education Dean Ray Reutzel are scheduled to discuss the Trustees College of Education Initiative at 10:45 a.m. Discussion of the Trustees Endowed Chairs Initiative is on the agenda for 1 p.m.

The university’s 2015-16 fiscal year budget is scheduled for discussion and approval at 1:15 p.m.

At 2 p.m., the board is scheduled to consider the university’s capital facilities construction process.

Updates on real estate matters and the board’s July retreat agenda are scheduled from 3-3:30 p.m.

The business meeting, in which trustees take formal action on agenda items, is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Among the items slated for action: a construction contract for the planned Associated Students of UW Memorial Plaza at the east end of Prexy’s Pasture; potential sale and removal of UW-owned buildings at the site of the future College of Engineering and Applied Science expansion; and a grant application to the Wyoming Water Development Commission for well development associated with Red Jacoby Golf Course.

The complete agenda is available on the Web at www.uwyo.edu/trustees/2015-meeting-materials/june_2015_meeting.html.
