The University of Wyoming Alumni Association will mark the 25th anniversary of the Alumni House Friday, Sept. 11.

An open house for the facility, located at 214 S. 14th St. in Laramie, is scheduled from 3:30-6 p.m., with a brief program at 5 p.m. RSVPs for the open house are requested, but not required. You may RSVP online at http://wyoalumni.uwyo.edu/anniversary or call (307) 766-6878.

“This was our association’s first permanent home, and this anniversary offers an opportunity for former board members, advocates and supporters of the Alumni House to come together to commemorate this historic milestone in our history,” says Keener Fry, executive director.

Guests will be able to tour the house, view before and after pictures of the home’s renovation, and enjoy light refreshments and beverages.

The house, graced by the life-sized bronze “Talk About Your Cowboy” statue, came about with leadership from the association’s board of directors in 1988-1990 and generosity from more than 500 alumni and friends. More than $350,000 was raised to purchase and renovate the historic Goodale/Forbes house.

The association moved into the house before Homecoming in fall 1990, with the formal dedication and ribbon cutting taking place Nov. 10 that year. The bricks, engraved with the donors’ names, make up most of the sidewalk leading to the front door. The house remains on the National Register of Historic Places.

“The purchase of the house helped spur the association to unprecedented growth in the services provided to alumni, students and friends of the university,” Fry says. “The Alumni House remains an integral component of our rich 120-year history and is vital, in conjunction with the expansion of our external operations into the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center, to continue to develop high priority engagement programs such as career services, student scholarships and leadership, Homecoming activities and other events and reunions.”

The UW Alumni Association has served alumni, students and UW since 1895. The association promotes UW’s excellence, distinction and uniqueness to the people of the state, the nation and the world, and fosters a spirit of loyalty and community among its alumni, students and friends.
