Guest pianist Chang-xin Guan will perform Friday, Oct. 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts new recital hall. This free concert is open to the public as part of the University of Wyoming Music Department’s Faculty Recital Series.
Guan brings a Romantic program to UW featuring the Chopin Ballades performed in its entirety. He is an associate professor of piano and coordinator of international exchange events in the piano department at the China Conservatory of Music in Beijing.
Equally well-versed as a soloist and as a collaborative chamber musician, Guan has been praised for his “very keen sense for colors and nuances that give each musical style a unique quality,” says pianist Tamás Ungár.
As one of the laureates of the 1992 National Piano Competition of China, Guan earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees of art in piano performance from Beijing’s prestigious Central Conservatory of Music. He further studied at Texas Christian University, where he also served as staff accompanist of PianoTexas International Festival and Academy.
