Free screenings of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” will take place Friday, Oct. 30, at 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. in the University of Wyoming Union Family Room.
Following the 6:30 p.m. showing, a discussion is scheduled with the following panelists: Ulrich Adelt, assistant professor of American studies; Catherine Connolly, director and professor of gender and women’s studies; and Susan Dewey, associate professor of gender and women’s studies.
Adapted from the off-Broadway hit musical of the same name, “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” is the tale of a rock ‘n’ roll singer from communist Berlin who dreams of becoming an American sensation. Born a boy named Hansel, Hedwig is raised by a single mother who wishes to see her son do better than his poverty-stricken family. Some years later, Hansel is attracted to a good-looking American who promises a better life overseas under one condition: Hansel must undergo a sex-change operation to become a woman.
