San Francisco’s SFJAZZ Collective will perform “The Music of Michael Jackson” Saturday, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the University of Wyoming Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. The performance is part of the UW Cultural Programs fall series.

Tickets cost $25.50 for the public; $20.50 for senior citizens, UW faculty and staff; and $10.50 for UW students. Tickets are available at www.uwyo.edu/finearts or by calling (307) 766-6666. Tickets also are available at the Wyoming Union information desk.

Launched in 2004 by SFJAZZ, the Collective is an all-star award-winning jazz ensemble. Eight of the finest performers and composers at work in jazz today comprise the group: Miguel Zenón, alto saxophone; David Sánchez, tenor saxophone; Sean Jones, trumpet; Robin Eubanks, trombone; Warren Wolf, vibraphone; Edward Simon, piano; Matt Penman, bass; and Obed Calvaire, drums.

The Collective is on tour in 2015-16, celebrating the music of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, as well as the ensemble’s own original compositions. This season also marks the debut of new member Jones.

To cultivate its distinctive sound, the SFJAZZ Collective convenes in San Francisco each spring for a multi-week residency. Throughout this extended rehearsal period, the octet refines the season’s new repertoire and interacts with the Bay Area community through SFJAZZ’s education programs for youth and adults.

The Collective has released several limited edition CD sets. The Collective’s first and only studio album, “Wonder: The Songs of Stevie Wonder,” won Outstanding Jazz Album at the 45th Annual NAACP Image Awards in Pasadena, Calif.
