University of Wyoming Calendar for Oct. 19

These are among the activities scheduled Oct. 19-25 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Oct. 19, 7:30 a.m. -- “Chai for a Child” sponsored by Milaap and the Keep Girls in School Project. Simpson Plaza.

Monday, Oct. 19, 1 p.m. -- “From Self-Determination to the Human Rights Era of Federal Indian Law,” presented by Walter Echo-Hawk as part of the High Plains American Indian Research Institute Distinguished Lecture Series. Wyoming Union West Ballroom. Free.

Monday, Oct. 19, 3:10 p.m. -- The Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecture Series presents John Kaszuba. He will discuss “A Geologist in Holland: Geochemistry Meets Geomechanics One Meter Below Sea Level” in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. Free.

Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2 p.m. -- Silvia Soto will present "'A World Where Many Worlds Fit' -- Zapatismo and the Reconstruction of a Post 1994 Mayan World in Chiapas" as part of the Latina/o Studies Speaker Series Program. Classroom Building, Room 306. Free.

Tuesday, Oct. 20, 7:30 p.m. -- UW Cultural Programs presents the Attacca Quartet, Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $17.50 for the public; $14.50 for senior citizens, UW faculty and staff; and $10.50 for UW students. Tickets are available at www.uwyo.edu/finearts or by calling (307) 766-6666. Wednesday, Oct. 21, 6 p.m. -- Screening of the HBO movie “Baller” in the Wyoming Union Ballroom, sponsored by Pi Kappa Phi. Free.

Wednesday, Oct. 21, 7:30 p.m. -- UW Collegiate Chorale performance “The Human Spirit” in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Thursday, Oct. 22, 4:10 p.m. -- “Black Futurities: Shape-Shifting Beyond the Limits of the Human” presented by Hazel Carby from Yale University. Classroom Building, Room 129. Free.

Thursday, Oct. 22, 5 p.m. -- Rainbow Leadership Series presents “Collaborating as a Leader” in the Wyoming Union, Room 202. Free.

Thursday, Oct. 22, 5 p.m. -- Panel with M-12 BOULDER in Visual Arts Room 111. A reception follows in the Visual Arts Building lobby at 6:30 p.m. Free.

Thursday, Oct. 22, 6:30 p.m. -- Reception followed by a behind-the-scenes animation presentation and question-and-answer session at 7:30 p.m. with Disney Pixar artist Michael O’Brien, who will discuss the new film “The Good Dinosaur,” Visual Arts Building auditorium. Free.

Thursday, Oct. 22, 7 p.m. -- Telluride Mountainfilm on Tour in the Gryphon Theatre. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Hosted by the UW Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources. Free.

Thursday, Oct. 22, 7 p.m. -- Studio WYO presents Harriman Exit with Lunar Forestry Service in the Wyoming Union Gardens. Free.

Friday, Oct. 22, noon -- School of Energy Resources Speaker Series presents Tim Considine, UW Department of Economics and Finance professor. He will discuss "The Effectiveness of Home Energy Audits: A Case Study of Jackson, Wyoming" in the Energy Innovation Center Encana auditorium. Lunch provided. Free.

Friday, Oct. 23, 5 p.m. -- The Good Mule Project sponsors a series of short speeches, “An Evening with Local Activists,” in the Wyoming Union Family Room. Free.
