UW Fleet Services to Upgrade Fuel System

October 12, 2015

The scheduled upgrade of the University of Wyoming’s fuel system will make the fueling process for campus vehicle operators easier and provide improved reports for vehicle management.

The Aim 2.4 system upgrades the FuelMaster system that the university has used for many years to dispense and track fuel costs. The upgrade applies to light-duty and heavy-duty campus vehicles built after 1995.

The current process for vehicle operators is to insert the fuel key into the FuelMaster Control box at the pump, enter their pin number and vehicle mileage, and select the pump that is dispensing the fuel. Operators frequently record the incorrect mileage. The AIM 2.4 system completely automates the process through the use of a nozzle tag installed on the vehicle and radio frequency technology.

Operators will no longer need to insert fuel keys, and the system automatically collects the vehicle mileage as well as information such as engine error code, says Shawn Fletcher, Fleet Services manager.

“We’re looking forward to improved service management of the university’s vehicle fleet,” Fletcher says. “The AIM 2.4 system will allow us to more closely track the service intervals for campus vehicles and be proactive when error codes are reported.”

The upgrade process will begin in November and continue through spring 2016. Fleet Services’ personnel will contact departments to schedule a convenient conversion time, and departments should be without their vehicles for more than a day. After a department’s vehicles are upgraded, operators will be advised about new fueling processes.

Departments won’t be charged for the initial installation of necessary vehicle equipment. For additional information, click here.
