International Students Contribute More than $22 Million in Wyoming

International students enrolled at the University of Wyoming and the state’s community colleges contributed $22.1 million to Wyoming’s economy during 2014-15, according to a recent report released by NAFSA, the Association for International Educators.

The report shows 1,174 international students enrolled in Wyoming, supporting 211 jobs.

“The economic contributions of international students are in addition to the immeasurable academic and cultural value these students bring to our campuses and local communities,” NAFSA reports.

The Wyoming totals, by institution, student enrollment, financial contributions and jobs supported:

University of Wyoming -- 979 students, $18.4 million, supporting 192 jobs.

Northwest College, Powell -- 70 students, $1.3 million, supporting seven jobs.

Laramie County Community College, Cheyenne -- 44 students, $808,405, supporting four jobs.

Sheridan College -- 24 students, $443,017, supporting two jobs.

Western Wyoming Community College, Rock Springs -- 26 students, $428,584, supporting two jobs.

Casper College -- 19 students, $349,998, supporting two jobs.

Central Wyoming College, Riverton -- 10 students, $224,069, supporting one job.

NAFSA did not provide data for Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington. Enrollment figures are from the Institute of International Education’s “Open Doors Report on International Exchange.”

NAFSA conducts an annual state-by-state and congressional district analysis of the economic contributions of international students and their families to the U.S. economy. The latest analysis finds that the 974,926 international students studying at U.S. colleges and universities contributed $30.5 billion and supported more than 373,000 jobs to the U.S. economy during the 2014-15 academic year.
