Body Image Awareness Week Events Scheduled at UW

Events promoting positive and healthy body image will be offered during Body Image Awareness Week underway this week through Friday, March 4, at the University of Wyoming.

All events are free and open to the public.

The remaining schedule and presenters are:

Tuesday, March 1, 10 a.m. -- “Body Image and Veterans with Disabilities: A discussion of the stigma surrounding prosthetic limbs and visible wounds within our veteran community,” Michael Brandon Pelfrey, counselor education graduate student, Wyoming Union Family Room.

1 p.m. -- “Mindful Eating Seminar: No more diets!” Lena Newlin, Wellness Center assistant director, and Erin Kyle, fitness coordinator and nutritionist, Wellness Center Zen Den.

Wednesday, March 2, 8 a.m. -- UW Gatekeepers suicide prevention, Wyoming Union Bighorn Room.

Noon -- “Not Broken: Body image in women with disabilities, a personal story,” Carole Curry, counselor education graduate student, Wyoming Union Senate Chambers.

2 p.m. -- “Train for a Better Mood: Changing your outlook on exercise,” Kierston Mills, personal trainer, and Alli Brayton, UW Counseling Center intern, Wyoming Union Senate Chambers.

Thursday, March 3, noon -- “Image in Transition: How the gender identify movement is reshaping our ideas of body image,” Sean Christina Slagle, Wyoming Union Family Room.

Friday, March 4, 9 a.m. -- “You are What You Wear!” College student perspective on body image and dieting, Wyoming Union Family Room.

11 a.m. -- “You are Enough,” yoga as a body-based practice for self-compassion and self-improvement, Erica Barton, Wyoming Union Senate Chambers.

Noon -- “Body Shame and Eating Disorders Across College Campuses: Signs and Solutions,” Katie Lear, Wyoming Union Senate Chambers.
