Indian scholar Ananda Shankar Jayant will present a lecture and a traditional dance performance Thursday, Feb. 11, and Friday, Feb. 12, at the University of Wyoming. Both programs are free and open to the public.

Jayant will speak Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. in the UW College of Education auditorium and will present a solo dance performance Feb. 12 at 9 p.m. in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium.

Her UW visit is part of “The Global Arts Education Series,” which seeks to enhance and cultivate diversity while embracing and promoting excellence in art. The project is co-sponsored by UW programs Visual and Cultural Arts and Friday Night Fever, and also the Wyoming Arts Council, through funding from the Wyoming State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Jayant is one of India’s leading classical dancers, choreographers and dance scholars. She will perform in two classical styles of Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. During her performance, audience members will be exposed to the contrasting, but effective, ways in which the artist uses space, environment and regional culture.
