Jennifer Tanner, a University of Wyoming Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering associate professor, recently was selected as a fellow of the American Concrete Institute (ACI).

She was selected based on her “outstanding contributions to the production or use of concrete materials, products and structures in the areas of education, research, development, design, construction or management.” Additionally, she was cited for “significant contributions to ACI through committees and/or local chapters.”

A member of the American Society of Testing Material and the Masonry Society, Tanner has been chair and a voting member of ACI committees. Her research interests are large-scale testing, earthquake resistant concrete and masonry buildings, and strengthening concrete using fiber reinforced polymers and masonry. She has written or co-written 15 journal papers, 16 conference papers and numerous technical reports.

According to the ACI, Tanner developed a website for professors who wish to develop masonry laboratories in their universities. It is a free resource available to the public.

Tanner holds a B.A. in mathematics from Eastern College; a B.S. in civil engineering from Oklahoma State University; an M.S. from the University of Costa Rica; and a Ph.D. in structural engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.

Founded in 1904, the ACI is a leading authority and resource worldwide for individuals and organizations involved in concrete design, construction and materials, and who share a commitment to pursuing the best use of concrete. ACI has nearly 20,000 members in more than 120 countries.
