UW’s Western Wyoming Winter Ag Series Helps with Beef Cows, Hay Production and Pesticide Classes

February 16, 2016

Beef cow value, better hay production and pesticide applicator training are the focus of the 2016 Western Wyoming Winter Ag Series in six towns Feb. 29-March 3.

Sessions are in Afton, Cokeville, Evanston, Farson, Jackson and Pinedale.

The beef cow session provides information on cow costs and potential returns as well as a tool for producers to help determine the value of a beef cow, says Bridger Feuz, University of Wyoming Extension livestock marketing specialist. Managing a beef cow’s nutritional needs also will be presented.

The Wyoming master hay grower production program focuses on production, variety selection, economics and risk management associated with hay production.

“This has been a program offered in several Wyoming locations and is a valuable resource for hay growers,” Feuz says.

The pesticide training provides agricultural producers necessary information to obtain a private pesticide applicator license.

The schedule is:

-- Monday, Feb. 29, Afton Civic Center, pesticide applicator training, 10 a.m.-noon; Jackson 4-H Building, pesticide applicator training, 2:30-4:30 p.m.; focus on the beef cow, 6-8 p.m.

-- Tuesday, March 1, Pinedale Weed and Pest building, pesticide applicator training, 10 a.m.-noon; Farson Community Center, pesticide applicator training, 2:30-4:30 p.m.; focus on the beef cow, 6-8 p.m.
