Campus Construction Update for April 10

These are among the construction activities scheduled April 10-16 at the University of Wyoming:

Snow Removal -- Physical Plant crews will remove snow as needed throughout the season. Watch for snow-removal equipment; be careful and safe during snow events. Call the service desk at 766-6225 to report icy spots and problem areas.

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities for the week:

Hoyt Hall Renovation (General contractor Elk Ridge Builders & Design LLC, Laramie; scheduled substantial completion July 22, 2016) -- New wall construction; painting; installation of new door frames, acoustical ceiling grid, new fire alarm system and light fixtures; along with rough-in of electrical and data wiring are taking place throughout the building. The majority of the plumbing rough-in on the second and third floors has been completed. Building renovation is progressing from the third floor down and is about 50 percent complete. The second and third floors are scheduled to be substantially complete by mid-May, with the first floor substantially complete in early June. Please observe all temporary barricades, construction fencing, cautionary signs or other posted instructions around the building where work is taking place.

High Bay Research Facility (General contractor Haselden Wyoming Constructors, Laramie; 19th Street; scheduled completion spring 2017) -- Storm drain No. 1 -- that will extend from the site south to a detention pond at 19th and Willett -- began construction March 7. This work will continue through early June. The crew is completing the portion of the line extending through the west Animal Science parking lot and will soon move south into the drive lane south of Animal Science to complete the next portion of the line. Mechanical ductwork is being installed on both the first and second floors of the west wing. Drywall, including lead-lined shielding, is being installed throughout the second floor of the west wing. Wall framing for the first floor of the west wing is ongoing, with drywall starting on the priority walls. Curtain wall framing is being installed on the west side of the west wing, followed by glazing installation. Exterior stone masonry is being installed on the upper walls on the south portion of the north wing. Masonry/concrete masonry unit walls are nearing completion in the corridor of the north wing. Metal panels for the mechanical penthouses have started to be installed on the west side of the building. Concrete for the strong floor in the Structural Testing Laboratory was placed April 6, allowing the form work to begin on the reaction wall.

Biological Sciences Building Mechanical Modifications (General contractor Independent Heating and Sheet Metal, Laramie) -- Roof installation is complete.

Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts (General contractor Sampson Construction, Cheyenne; Fine Arts Building renovation and expansion) -- Remaining landscaping installation is now in progress on the east side of the building. Staging is on the north side of the building. UW Operations is installing chilled water lines by vending and the men’s restroom next to vending. 

The UW Physical Plant has 323 projects, valued at more than $45.2 million, in progress. Following is a list of ongoing construction activities in areas of campus that may impact you:

Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts (Shepard Construction Inc., Rawlins; April 2016) -- Window and door replacement on the west side of the building is scheduled to begin April 11 and will continue through June 30. The windows and doors on the west side of the building, which were not impacted by the east expansion project, are of primary focus. Replacement of these windows and doors is expected to improve energy efficiency and occupant comfort. Please use caution near crews and equipment in this area.

Fieldhouse North (Gem City Roofing, Laramie; April 2016) -- Replacement of roofs will begin with the Cowgirl soccer office April 8. Work will progress to the Conference Room 101 roof next week, weather permitting. Loading and staging will be in the area of the Arena-Auditorium and the sidewalk northeast of the east entry. Some noise can be expected during demolition and during new flashing attachment. Please be cautious around crews and equipment in the area.

Wyoming Union (UW Physical Plant; April 2016) -- Repairs and painting are scheduled to begin on the handrail on the northwest side of the Union. Please use caution near crews and materials.

Energy Innovation Center (UW Physical Plant; April 2016) -- Mechanical upgrades to the evaporative cooling system will be made in the penthouse units. The units will be shut down for several hours during the week of April 11. Building occupants should not be affected.

Physical Sciences Building (Arcon Inc., Laramie; April 2016) -- Construction will begin to repair water damage in the corridor that links the Classroom Building to the Physical Sciences Building. This corridor is adjacent to the Planetarium main entry. Selective demolition, framing, drywall and painting will be performed on the south wall. One of the corridor entry doors will remain active throughout the project. Dust and traffic-control barricades will be in place. Please be cautious around crews and equipment in the area.

Landmark Square Apartments (Highland Landscaping, Laramie; June 2016) -- Landscape improvements and new sprinkler system installation will begin in remaining Landmark Apartment areas. Irrigation main, lateral line installation and pump station infrastructure are complete for the large central areas. The smaller areas adjacent to the center and the perimeter will be stripped of existing landscaping, and sprinkler infrastructure will be installed. Traffic-control barricades will be placed, and equipment will be staged. Please be cautious around excavation areas and equipment.

Jacoby Golf Course (Christensen Irrigation Co., Costa Mesa, Calif.; May 2016) -- Construction has resumed with installation of the pumping equipment and lateral irrigation piping near the clubhouse. Piping and material are stockpiled in the staging area west of the clubhouse and around the course. Improvements are expected to decrease water consumption, reduce system maintenance and enhance aesthetics. Please use caution near crews and equipment in this area.

American Heritage Center (The Plumbing Co., Laramie; June 2016) -- Construction of a new pump house between the American Heritage Center and the Visual Arts Building continues. Piping and material will be stockpiled in the area. Please use caution near crews and equipment in this area.

Engineering Building (UW Physical Plant Paint Shop; April 2016) -- Painting of interior public spaces will be ongoing. The primary focus will be the central and south corridors and stairwells. Painting is expected to continue for several weeks. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

1112 Bradley St./1118 Bradley St./1108 Bradley St./456 N. 12th St. (Summit Trucking and House Moving; May 2016) -- Removal of these structures is ongoing and is scheduled to be complete by May 31. Please be aware of equipment in the area, and observe posted street and parking closures.

Bureau of Mines Building (Marshall Contracting, Laramie; The Plumbing Company, Laramie; Fremont Electric, Laramie; April 2016) -- A renovation to satisfy ADA compliance in the existing basement-level men’s restroom is in progress. The restroom will be bisected to accommodate an ADA-accessible men’s and women’s restroom. Paint, tile and toilet partition work are in progress. Please be cautious of work crews and equipment in the area.

Animal Science Building and the Centennial Complex (Stonehouse Inc., Laramie; April 2016) -- A new electric vault, north of the sidewalk that bisects the Animal Science Building and the Centennial Complex, has been poured, waterproofed and backfilled. Traffic-control barricades and fencing will remain in place until the new conductors are pulled in April, weather permitting. Please use caution around staged vehicles and equipment.

Fieldhouse North (JC Construction, Laramie; April 2016) -- Renovations to the volleyball locker room are complete.

Education Annex (Arcon Inc., Laramie; April 2016) -- Replacement of select windows in the LRCC of the Education Annex is scheduled to be complete April 8.

Aven Nelson Building (UW Physical Plant; April 2016) -- Replacement of broken and/or floating tiles in the first-floor corridor is scheduled to be complete April 10.
