Drone demonstrations, meat selection and preparation, and sheep wagon rides are part of the Powell Research and Extension Center field day Tuesday, July 19.

The day also commemorates the 125th anniversary celebration of the Wyoming Agricultural Experiment Station.

Registration starts at 1:30 p.m., and events conclude with a dinner at 4:30 p.m., says Jeremiah Vardiman, University of Wyoming Extension educator based in Powell.

“This is a great opportunity to explore the various research projects happening on the Powell Research and Extension Center while also having time for a one-on-one conversation with the various researchers,” Vardiman says.

UW’s draft horse team of Pistol and Pete will provide horsepower, giving rides on the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources’ renovated sheep wagon.

The schedule includes:

2-3:30 p.m. -- Field tours and demonstration booths.

3:30-4:30 p.m. -- Social hour and research poster sessions.

4:30 p.m. -- Dinner. RSVPs suggested.

There will be live honey bees in an observation hive, Simplot’s SmartFarm technology and 4-H robotics club demonstrations. The Powell MakerSpace will have its 3-D printer and laser engraver, and there are other participants as well.

UW meat science and food technology professor Warrie Means will provide meat preparation, selection and cooking advice; and Dave Kruger, agricultural liaison librarian at UW and author of the book “125 Years of the Wyoming Agricultural Experiment Station, 1891-2016,” will discuss and sign copies of his newly released book highlighting the history of the 125 years of the UW Agricultural Experiment Station.

For more information and to RSVP dinner, call Samantha Fulton at (307) 754-2223 at the Powell Research and Extension Center.
