Public Meeting Sept. 7 on New UW Engineering Building Project

August 31, 2016

A public meeting about construction of the University of Wyoming’s new Engineering Education and Research Building (EERB) is scheduled 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7.

The meeting will take place in the Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center auditorium, not far from where the new engineering building will be constructed on the north end of campus along Lewis Street.

The meeting will include presentations of design drawings of the facility, information on project schedules, construction site management details and a general question-and-answer session. Anyone interested in the project is invited to attend.

Representatives of ZGF Architecture, the lead design firm, and GE Johnson Construction, the construction manager, will be among those presenting information and answering questions.

Part of UW’s Tier-1 Engineering Initiative, the approximately 100,000-square-foot EERB will feature four floors of new spaces for modern instruction and research, including a new shop and student project areas; teaching and computer labs in an active-learning configuration; reconfigurable research labs with associated office and collaborative spaces; meeting/conference rooms; and a drilling and completions simulation lab.

At a cost of about $105 million, it will be the largest construction project in the university’s history. Excavation and site preparation are underway, with construction scheduled to begin Oct. 17. A groundbreaking ceremony is planned Oct. 7. Construction completion is expected in summer 2019.
