University of Wyoming Calendar for Aug. 29

These are among the activities scheduled Aug. 29-Sept. 4 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Aug. 29 -- Fall semester classes begin.

Monday, Aug. 29, 6 p.m. -- Cowgirl volleyball vs. North Dakota State, UniWyo Sports Complex. Ticket prices vary.

Tuesday, Aug. 30, 4:30 p.m. -- Simon Springer, an associate professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Victoria, Canada, will discuss “Beauty Through Order: The Exile and Arbitrary Detention of Cambodia’s Homeless” in the Arts and Sciences Building, Room 210. Free.

Tuesday, Aug. 30, 5:30 p.m. -- The UW Institute for Advanced Study presents National Geographic and UW writer-in-residence Mark Jenkins. He will discuss “Going to Extremes: Encounters with Earth, Wind and Water” in the College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Instrumental ensemble Lights Along the Shore will provide music. Free.

Friday, Sept. 2, 6 p.m. -- The Cowboy KICKOFF concert and pep rally, featuring country singer Kip Moore, will take place at War Memorial Stadium. Advance tickets cost $30 for adults, $20 for UW students with ID and $10 for children under 12 years of age. Adult and student tickets purchased at the gate will be $10 higher. Purchase tickets online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts or call (307) 766-6666.

Friday, Sept. 2, 8 p.m. -- Planetarium show, “Gravity Waves.” A Best of Pink Floyd laser light show follows at 9:10 p.m. Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in Room 204 of the Physical Sciences Building.

Saturday, Sept. 3, 10 a.m. -- The Pat Guthrie Special Exhibitions Teaching Gallery opens for the fall semester at the UW Art Museum. Free.

Saturday, Sept. 3, 8:30 p.m. -- The Cowboys open the football season against Northern Illinois at War Memorial Stadium. vary.

Dinosaur skeletons, ancient mammal fossils and other exhibits are on display in the UW Geological Museum, open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Free.

The UW Department of Botany’s Williams Conservatory is open to the public Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Free.
