Campus Construction Update for Sept. 4

These are among the construction activities scheduled Sept. 4-10 at the University of Wyoming:

Roof replacements (Big Horn Roofing, Laramie; November 2016) -- Campus roof replacements will occur in the following order, weather permitting. Crews working at the Police Annex and Casper Family Practice tentatively plan to mobilize to the Arts and Sciences Building’s northeast stairwell roof Sept. 5. Use caution around equipment and work crews’ activities.

Irrigation -- As irrigation pressures vary, watering in some areas may occur during the day.

Ross Hall/North Side Fire Hydrant Leak -- Excavation to repair the leaking fire hydrant will start the latter part of September. Unfortunately, to make repairs, the following buildings -- Old Main, Merica Hall, Student Health/Cheney International Center, Hoyt Hall, Ross Hall and Knight Hall -- will be without water for several hours the day of repairs. Notification of water outages will be posted before the outage. Material is ordered. The exact date of repairs will be announced and posted. 

UW Operations reports the following activities for the week:

19th and Harney Streets (Elk Ridge Builders, Laramie; September 2016) -- Installation of ADA ramps on the northwest corner of 19th Street is scheduled to begin. Access will be on the east side of the street. Please use caution near crews and equipment.

Lewis Street from 12th Street to 15th Street (Elk Ridge Builders, Laramie; September 2016) -- Replacement of concrete and asphalt will be ongoing. Plumbing repairs are taking place on a drain line next to the Anthropology Building on the south side of Lewis Street. Please use caution near crews and equipment.

RMMC and Central Energy Plant (The Plumbing Company, Laramie; August 2016) -- Installation of irrigation pipe along 22nd and Harney streets continues. South-side, on-street parking, adjacent to the work area, will be closed temporarily as work progresses westward. Please use caution near equipment in this area.

Jacoby Golf Course -- Construction of the new irrigation system is complete. Landscaping and cleanup work continues around the pump house.

Central Energy Plant (ITC Electrical Technologies, Casper; September 2016) -- New transformers, generators and switchgear are being installed at the UW Central Energy Plant. The landscape area to the south and west of the plant will be partitioned off for construction activities. There will be storage containers, vehicles and equipment on the adjacent roadway. Please be cautious around crews and equipment in the area.

Education Building (Arcon Inc., Laramie; November 2016) -- Construction is ongoing for the Education Building window replacement project. The contractor will begin to demobilize from the east and north sides of the building. Scaffolding will remain on the south side of the building to enable ongoing awning repairs. Window replacement on the third floor south side also will begin next week and continue until mid-October. Replacement of these windows is expected to improve energy efficiency and occupant comfort. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Agriculture Building (Mastec, Denver, Colo.; November 2016) -- Installation of an AT&T Cellular site on the east roof of the building is underway. Please be cautious of work crews and equipment in the area.

Coe Library (SE Wyoming Insulation, Laramie; August 2016) -- Construction is ongoing in Room 206 to convert it into a presentation studio and an extra storage room. Existing lighting will be replaced with new LEDs. Please be cautious of work crews and equipment in the area.

Gibbon Street east of 15th Street (Equipment Services) -- Installation of the culvert at the RMMC storage building is complete. Maintenance activities on the gravel portion of Gibbon Street east of 15th Street will be ongoing. Please use caution around crews and equipment in the area.

Agriculture Building (Summit Sealants Inc., Montrose, Colo.; November 2016) -- Building exterior surface repairs; window glazing joints/window perimeter re-sealing, control joint re-sealing; and a new elastomeric coating are being applied to the Agriculture Building addition. There will be three hanging stages and associated rigging on the north, south and east elevations of the Agriculture Building addition. Traffic control and falling debris protective infrastructure will be in place. Please be cautious around crews and equipment.

Arts and Sciences Building (Arcon Inc., Laramie; September 2016) -- Construction on the upper balcony railing now will begin. Please be aware of crews and equipment in the area, and observe posted closures.

Coe Library (Source Office & Electrical Solutions, Laramie; September 2016) -- Construction for a partition wall system will begin at the open-stack study area (Room 230) Sept. 6. Library operations will continue as normal. Please be cautious around crews and equipment. 

Southeast Corner of Bradley and 13th Street (Equipment Services) -- Damaged sidewalk will be replaced. Please use caution near crews and equipment.

McWhinnie Hall (UW Operations Paint Shop) -- Painting of interior public spaces is scheduled to begin the week of Sept. 5. Painters will focus on the corridors and stairwells of the upper level and work their way down. Painting is expected to continue for several weeks. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Hoyt Hall Renovation (General contractor Elk Ridge Builders & Design LLC, Laramie; July 22, 2016) -- This project is substantially complete, and a final certificate of occupancy has been received from the city of Laramie. The general contractor is completing punch-list items that were identified by the design team. After all punch-list items are complete, and other required documentation is provided by the general contractor, the project will be closed out. 

High Bay Research Facility (Haselden Wyoming Constructors, Laramie; scheduled completion Jan. 4, 2017) -- Storm Drain No. 1 -- that will extend from the site south to a detention pond at 19th Street and Willett -- is complete, with the exception of the outlet extension. Patching of the asphalt has been completed, and the lot is open for parking access. Asphalt paving is being placed around the north and west sides of the building. A masonry screen wall for the mechanical yard is being constructed on the northwest corner of the building. Masonry work continues on the north façade. Trees and shrubs are being placed on all sides of the building. A tie-in of the fiber and copper lines will begin early next week. Lab casework installation continues on the second floor of the west wing. An above-ceiling mechanical and electrical inspection will be performed by UW Operations next week. The grid system for the acoustic tile is complete on the second floor and continues on the first floor. Flooring preparation has begun on the second floor. Curtain wall sunshades are being installed on the north and west façade.  An air/water test for the exterior building envelope will be performed Sept. 2.

Engineering Education and Research Building Site Clearing/Demolition (General contractor Wyoming Earthmoving Corp., Rozet; September 2016) -- The general contractor has completed excavation and removal of a large deposit of unsuitable gypsum-based soil within the future Engineering Education and Research Building footprint. New, acceptable backfill soil from existing campus stockpiles and other portions of project site is being used to replace the displaced material. A utility permit has been approved to allow installation of a new sanitary sewer line in 12th and Bradley streets, and removal of an existing abandoned sanitary sewer line in the east/west alley that bisects the project site. The contract completion date with Wyoming Earthmoving Corp. will be extended into September to allow completion of the sanitary sewer relocation and the demolition/removal of the remaining vacant house at 1103 Lewis St. Required asbestos abatement at 1103 Lewis St. is being completed under a separate contract. Please observe all temporary barricades, construction fencing, cautionary signs or other posted instructions around the site where work is taking place.

Wyoming State Vet Lab Renovations (BSL-3) (General Contractor Sampson Construction, Cheyenne; June 2017) -- All temporary protection measures are in place. Demolition within the BSL-3 space began this week and will continue for the next two to three weeks. Contractor access to the building will be on the east side.

Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts (General Contractor Sampson Construction, Cheyenne; September 2017) -- The project includes the installation of a sanitary lift station for the building. The south side of the Performing Arts Center will be fenced off, and occupants will not be able to enter the building through the south side. Part of the south parking lot will be fenced off as contractors dig to install a new sanitary line. Use caution around equipment and work activities.   

Arena-Auditorium Addition and Renovations (General Contractor Sletten Construction of Wyoming Inc., Cody; October 2018) -- Fencing for the construction site will be installed after Labor Day. The project includes an addition to the east side of the building, which will provide a new major façade to the facility. The concourse will be renovated to provide improved concession areas, merchandise areas, restrooms, way finding and an upgraded appearance. A new central ticket office will be created to serve the A-A as well as War Memorial Stadium. A concession commissary will be developed within the southeast portion of the addition to serve the A-A, War Memorial Stadium and other athletics events. A limited-use elevator will be installed to provide access for patrons seated on or near the arena floor. A new smoke evacuation system also will be installed within the facility. Parking on the east side of the building will be blocked for the project duration. Access to the A-A will remain open during the project, but be cautious of equipment, vehicles and construction crews in the area. 

Veterans Memorial Relocation (GE Johnson, Casper; October 2016) -- This project is in anticipation of the beginning of construction for the High Altitude Performance Center project in late November. It includes the relocation of the existing Veterans Memorial on the north end of War Memorial Stadium. The obelisks and all associated stone work, plaques and infrastructure will be relocated to the west-southwest of the Indoor Practice Facility adjacent to Warburton Plaza. A fence perimeter has been established around the new memorial location. Site work and underground utilities relocation will begin Sept. 6. Please be cautious around equipment and crews in the area.    

The following projects are complete:

Parking lot restriping (UW Operations Paint Shop) -- Parking lot restriping is complete.

McWhinnie Hall (Elk Ridge Builders, Laramie; August 2016) -- Installation of sidewalk grates is complete.

Cheyenne Family Medicine (Pinnacle Cabinets, Cheyenne; September 2016) -- Demolition of cabinetry to facilitate replacement of reception desk is complete. 

Wyoming Family Practice, Casper (Pope Construction, Mills; August 2016) -- Concrete work is complete.

American Heritage Center (Elk Ridge Builders, Laramie; August 2016) -- Installation of new ADA parking areas in the east and west end of the lot is complete.

War Memorial Stadium and UniWyo Sports Complex Video Board Project (Panasonic Enterprise Solutions, Newark, N.J.; August 2016) -- This project is complete.
