Skiing and Snowboarding Film Fest at UW Oct. 2 and 7

Three skiing and snowboarding films are part of the Gnarly Film Festival coming to the University of Wyoming Sunday, Oct. 2, and Friday, Oct. 7. UW’s student-led group, 7220 Entertainment, hosts the film festival, which is free and open to the public.

The first film, “The Fourth Phase,” presented by Red Bull TV, will be shown Oct. 2 at 9 p.m. The second film, “Tight Loose,” presented by Teton Gravity Research (TGR), will be Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. The last film, “Valhalla,” presented by Patagonia, will be shown Oct. 7 at 9 p.m.

All three movies will be shown in the Wyoming Union Family Room.

Adventurer Travis Rice returns to the big screen with his new project, “The Fourth Phase.” The snowboarding film features Rice and his crew Mark Landvik, Mikkel Bang, Eric Jackson, Pat Moore and Bryan Iguchi.

TGR is celebrating its 21st year with its latest film, “Tight Loose.” The film discovers unridden spine walls, massive airs and full-throttle riding in some of the wildest and most spectacular places on Earth.

“Valhalla” puts a spin on skiing films with a more narrative-driven approach. The film follows one man’s escape into the Northern woods, and his wild journey toward satisfaction, understanding and love in some of the deepest snows on Earth.

7220 Entertainment is looking for committee members to join one or more of its five committees responsible for planning events for UW students. For information about the committees, and a listing of meeting times, visit www.uwyo.edu/union/cac/7220-entertainment/how-to-join.html.

The Films Committee, which is responsible for organizing the Gnarly Film Festival, meets Wednesdays at 4 p.m. in the Campus Activities Center in Room 012 of the Wyoming Union.
