SBDC Workshops Focus on How to Succeed in Changing Economy

Today’s economy is rapidly changing. Two Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network workshops next month will provide some answers as to how businesses can better understand how today’s economy has changed; how today’s customers and employees have changed in response to these economic shifts; and how businesses can adapt and thrive in response to these innovations.

Meridith Elliott Powell, an award-winning author, speaker and business strategist, will teach attendees how to attract more business, retain top talent and leap into a position to win in the new economy during SBDC seminars Wednesday, Nov. 2, in Gillette at the Gillette College Main Building - Presentation Hall, 300 W. Sinclair; and Thursday, Nov. 3, in Casper at the Ramkota Hotel, located at 800 N. Poplar St. Both programs are scheduled 3-5 p.m. Powell’s background includes corporate sales and leadership. Her career includes positions in several industries, including banking, health care and finance; and she has written several books.

The SBDC is a partnership among the University of Wyoming, the Wyoming Business Council and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The SBDC focuses on educating small-business owners and potential owners on how to successfully start and operate small businesses. The SBDC’s main office is located at UW.

“Let’s face it. This economy has changed,” Powell says. “It’s not up. It’s not down. It’s different.”

She adds the new “trust and value economy” requires a revised business model to achieve success.

The program is free of charge due to funding from the SBA, but attendees must register online at www.wyomingsbdc.org. The first 25 attendees to register in each location will receive a free copy of Powell’s book, “Winning in the Trust & Value Economy.”

Reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities will be made if requested at least two weeks in advance. For more information, call Greg Jordan at (307) 766-3593 or email him at gregj@uwyo.edu.

The Wyoming SBDC Network is a business advising group of the Wyoming SBDC, Procurement Technical Assistance Center, Market Research Center and Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR)/Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Initiative. The network’s mission is to help Wyoming entrepreneurs succeed. Advising and most market research activities are free of charge to Wyoming residents.

The SBDC is funded, in part, through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. SBA. Additional support is provided by the Wyoming Business Council and UW.
