UW Presents Nightmare on Ivinson Oct. 28

The University of Wyoming will host a variety of Halloween events and entertainment for UW students at “Nightmare on Ivinson” Friday, Oct. 28, starting at 9 p.m. in the Wyoming Union.

7220 Entertainment’s Late Night Events Committee, the Residential Housing Association and Alpha Kappa Psi will present a horror makeup lecture and workshop by Darla Edin, the season eight winner of Syfy’s “Face Off”; a screening of the “Night of the Living Dead”; a murder mystery dessert party; a performance by illusionist Aiden Sinclair; ghost hunts in Knight Hall; and a screening of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”

Other activities include Halloween karaoke, cookie decorating, costume contests and free food. All events are free to UW students.

7220 Entertainment’s Fine Arts and Lectures Committee will host makeup artist Edin’s lecture and demonstrations at 9 p.m. in the Wyoming Union Gardens. Makeup demonstrations will include a zombie, werewolf and “Rocky Horror” character Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Students interested in serving as models should watch the Wyoming Union Facebook page for more information.

The Films Committee will show the cult classic “Night of the Living Dead” in the Wyoming Union Senate Chambers at 9:30 p.m. The story follows Barbra and Johnny, who visit their father’s grave in a remote cemetery when they are suddenly faced with zombies.

Murder Mystery Dessert Theater, featuring the story of “Murder in Dead Man’s Gulch,” will start at 10 p.m. in the Wyoming Union Family Room. While participants try to solve the crime, desserts will be available. Seats are limited for this event. Free tickets will be available at the Wyoming Union information desk beginning Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 9 a.m. Students can get two tickets per student ID.

Sinclair, a magician from Cheyenne, will perform in the Wyoming Union ballroom at 10 p.m. Sinclair is one of the few professional magicians in the world who specialize in the presentation of paranormal illusions. His theatrical séance is a weekly feature at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colo. He has appeared on national television programs in England, Ireland, South Africa and the United States, including an appearance on season 10 of the hit NBC series “America's Got Talent.”

Denver Ghost Hunters (DGH) will conduct three ghost hunting sessions in Knight Hall at 10 p.m., 11 p.m. and midnight. A limited number of tickets will be available at the Wyoming Union information desk beginning Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 9 a.m. DGH members travel across the country connecting with other ghost hunting groups and investigating a variety of places like haunted houses, businesses and historic locations.

Additionally, the Films Committee will show the fan favorite “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” at midnight in the Wyoming Union ballroom. Attendees must be 18 years old or older. IDs will be checked at the door. Prop bags for the movie will be given to audience members; additional props are not allowed. Closed captioning for “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” can be provided upon request.

The event will include costume contests for those dressed as characters from the movie and for general costumes. First prize is $250, second is $100, and third is $50 in both categories, with additional prizes to be given during the showing.
