UW Outreach School Interim Dean Alyson Hagy

The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees today (Friday) approved the appointment of Alyson Hagy as interim dean of the UW Outreach School.

Hagy succeeds Susan Frye as leader of the Outreach School, with Frye returning to her faculty position in the Department of English after more than three years as Outreach School dean.

“I express my appreciation to Susan for her contributions to the university’s important outreach mission over many years,” Provost Kate Miller says. “I have great confidence that Alyson will help us build upon the solid foundation of UW online education, leading to more robust and targeted services to students on campus, around Wyoming and far beyond.”

Hagy, a professor in UW’s Creative Writing Program who has taught at UW since 1996, is a graduate of Williams College and holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Michigan. For more than two years, she has been working with UW Director of Transfer Relations Patrice Noel to enhance UW’s relationship with Wyoming’s seven community colleges, including development of program-level articulation agreements for UW’s most popular degree programs.

Hagy says collaboration with the community colleges will be a key component of UW’s pursuit of more online education offerings, including more four-year degree programs outside the Laramie campus.

“I appreciate the faith of Provost Miller as we work to build on the increasingly strong relationships we have with Wyoming community colleges,” Hagy says. “Our intent is to build new structures to serve students even better, with refocused delivery of online courses and programs on the campus in Laramie, around Wyoming and across the country.”

Miller says all elements of the Outreach School will continue, though they may be organized in a different fashion. That includes UW-Casper -- the university’s branch campus in Natrona County that offers 18 bachelor’s degrees, 13 master’s degrees, six doctoral degrees, certificates and endorsements -- and eight other regional centers around the state.
