Real Women, Real Bodies Photography Exhibition in UW’s Gallery 234

The positive body image photography exhibition “When Do We Start Judging” is on display through Thursday, Feb. 9, in the University of Wyoming Gallery 234, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. A reception is planned Thursday, Feb. 2, at 6 p.m.
The exhibition features photographs from the student organization Real Women, Real Bodies. The exhibition is the fifth in a campaign presented by the organization to create positive body images.
One of the ways the UW organization promotes positive body image is through photo voice campaigns to reach out to various community members and ask them to model. The campaign focuses on the importance of recognizing the variety of differences, according to members. The campaigns are created to draw attention to societal pressures and expectations of looking a certain way.
The latest campaign features “chosen words,” a new element in the program’s series. These words represent each participant’s feelings toward her body. This brings with it the inner feelings and struggles of the models, according to the organization’s members.
