‘Birth of a Nation’ to be Screened at UW Feb. 13

February 10, 2017

A panel discussion and screening of “Birth of a Nation” will be Monday, Feb. 13, in the University of Wyoming Union Family Room at 6 p.m.

Closed captioning will be available during the film, with a panel discussion following. The film is rated R and is open to the public. The “Birth of a Nation” screening is sponsored by the Campus Activities Center’s 7220 Entertainment and UW African American and Diaspora Studies.

Set in the antebellum South, the film follows Nat Turner, a literate slave and preacher, whose financially strained owner, Samuel Turner, accepts an offer to use Nat's preaching to subdue unruly slaves. As he witnesses countless atrocities against himself and his fellow slaves, Turner orchestrates an uprising in the hope of leading his people to freedom.

7220 Entertainment is seeking committee members to join one or more of its five committees responsible for planning events for UW students. For more information about the committees and a listing of meeting times, visit
