“I Am,” a photography exhibition, will be on display beginning Monday, Feb. 13, in Gallery 234, located in the lower level of the University of Wyoming Union.
Presented by 7220 Entertainment, UW junior Taylor Hannon’s work will be on display through Thursday, March 2. A reception is scheduled Thursday, Feb. 16, from 6-8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
The idea for the project came from a collaboration with another artist, says Hannon, a communications major and photography minor student, from Torrance, Calif.
“I wanted to make a statement with my photographs, and I decided to base it off the idea of judgment,” she says. “This is something that I have struggled with: the idea that you have to hide your true self because of what others think. I wanted to find a way to bring forth our inner feelings and emotions.”
Hannon worked with a painter on the project.
“I asked models one word that described them in the context ‘I am…’ in which that word was then portrayed onto their bodies,” she says. Hannon is co-founder of the UW Photography Club.
