Mardi Gras Night Feb. 18 for UW Students

February 13, 2017

A Mardi Gras celebration, with games, food and entertainment, is scheduled at the University of Wyoming Saturday, Feb. 18, at 9 p.m. The event is free for all UW students in the Wyoming Union.

Mardi Gras Night will feature various activities throughout the night. Activities include mask making, balloon animals and face painting. Free creole food and mocktails will be served while they last.

The schedule also includes the screening of Disney’s “Princess and the Frog” at 9 p.m. in the Wyoming Union Family Room; UW Jazz Band, 9 p.m. in the Wyoming Union Gardens; Rebirth Brass Band, 10 p.m. in the Wyoming Union Ballroom; and Nick Pike, 11 p.m. in the Gardens.

Rebirth Brass Band was formed in 1982 by the Frazier brothers. The group is a true New Orleans brass band, known for its Grammy Award-winning sound. Rebirth upholds traditional brass band styles of music, while exploring funk and hip-hop to create its signature sound.

Pike is a season five competitor on “America’s Got Talent,” where he made it into the top 48 acts. He is known for his comedy and juggling skills. Pike has performed as a headline act on various cruise ships and at more than 200 colleges throughout the U.S.

The Weekly Events Committee, which organized Mardi Gras Night, meets Wednesdays at 2 p.m. in the Campus Activities Center (CAC), located in Room 012 of the Wyoming Union.
