UW Art Museum to Screen Film March 27

The film “The True Meaning of Pictures: Shelby Lee Adams’ Appalachia” will be screened at the University of Wyoming Art Museum Monday, March 27, from 5:30-7 p.m.

The film screening will take place in the museum classroom, which is accessible through the lower level entrance of the Centennial Complex. Following the film, visitors can view the exhibition “Appalachia: Photographs by Shelby Lee Adams, 1989-2009” and share in a talk-back session led by Katie Christensen, curator of education and statewide engagement. The event is free and open to the public.

“The True Meaning of Pictures” is a feature-length documentary that addresses the issue of representation in documentary photography by examining the work of American photographer Shelby Lee Adams.

“Appalachia: Photographs by Shelby Lee Adams, 1989-2009” is on view through May 13.

Through its “Museum as Classroom” approach, the UW Art Museum places art at the center of learning for all ages. Located in the Centennial Complex at 2111 Willett Drive in Laramie, the museum is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday hours are extended to 7 p.m. February through April and September through November. Admission is free.
