Guest Chamber Musicians to Perform at UW April 20

The University of Wyoming Department of Music’s Faculty Recital Series continues with guest chamber musicians Xiao Xue Sun, piano; Fangye Sun, violin; and Daniel Tressel, cello, Thursday, April 20.

The free public concert is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. The program will feature works by Josef Haydn, Qing Xiang Zhang, Anton Arensky and Astor Piazolla. The guest trio formed while all members were pursuing their doctoral degrees in musical arts at Michigan State University.

China-born Fangye Sun is an assistant professor of violin at Central Michigan University. She has performed throughout Asia and North America, appearing as a soloist with multiple orchestras. Sun previously held a professorship at Xi’an Conservatory of Music in Shaanxi, China, where she was the recipient of the Distinguished Faculty Award.

Xiao Xue Sun is an associate professor of piano at the Music College of Capital Normal University in Beijing, China. She was the first doctoral pianist introduced to Capital Normal University from the U.S. She frequently is invited to give piano master classes in major universities in China, Taiwan and the U.S.

Tressel, a faculty member at Albion College in Albion, Mich., was named the 2011 national winner of the Merle J. Isaac Composition Contest and runner-up of the 2015 Michigan Music Teachers Association Commissioned Composer Competition. He has been commissioned by the Jackson Symphony, Livingston Symphony and Verdehr Trio.
