Railroad Earth, Rapidgrass to Perform at UW May 5

April 28, 2017

Railroad Earth will perform with guests Rapidgrass as part of the Wyoming Union Fest activities Friday, May 5, at 5 p.m. on Prexy’s Pasture at the University of Wyoming. The concert is free and open to the public, and food will be provided.

Railroad Earth is known for its bluegrass and rock ‘n’ roll sounds. The band plays acoustic instruments, mixed with drums and amplifiers -- something uncommon in the world of bluegrass music.

Railroad Earth started in 2001 as an informal group. After a few months, band members created a demo tape that was sent to various music festival organizers. The demo led them to the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. Soon after that, the band created its debut album, “The Black Bear Sessions.”

The band has since released five more studio albums and a live album, “Elko.”

Colorado-based Rapidgrass claims the label of mountain music as its sound. Band members say their music is original mountain music influenced by an active, outdoor lifestyle.

The band uses classical, gypsy, bluegrass, pop, swing and various other rhythms to create its sound, called “Rapidgrass.”
