University of Wyoming Calendar for April 10

These are among the activities scheduled April 10-16 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, April 10-Thursday, April 13 -- Multiple events are scheduled to examine the impacts of the Heart Mountain Relocation Center then and now.

Monday, April 10, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Kerry Key, from the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University. He will discuss “Mapping Seafloor Tectonics with Electromagnetic Waves” in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. Free.

Monday, April 10, 5 p.m. -- The Wyoming Institute for Humanities Research sponsors a panel discussion that will explore questions museum objects can generate in research and teaching. The discussion will take place at the UW Art Museum. Free.

Monday, April 10, 6:30 p.m. -- The UW 7220 Entertainment’s Films Committee presents “I Am Sam” in the Wyoming Union Family Room. Free.

Monday, April 10, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music’s Percussion Ensemble will perform in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Free.

Wednesday, April 12, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. -- The Curiosity Cube, a mobile science lab, will be open for hands-on experiments in front of the Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center. Free.

Wednesday, April 12, 3 p.m. -- The UW Department of Anthropology presents guest lecturer Oana Ivan. She will discuss “Lives Among Waters,” an ethnographic film, in the Classroom Building, Room 310. Free.

Wednesday, April 12, 4 p.m. -- The UW chapter of Sigma Delta Pi presents Debra Castillo, professor of comparative literature at Cornell University. Castillo will discuss her research and publications on Spanish language literature in the Business Building, Room 121. Free.

Wednesday, April 12, 4 p.m. -- The UW Division of Kinesiology and Health presents UW Associate Professor Tucker Readdy. He will discuss the use of reflective practice to guide decision making in elite coaching as part of the division’s Intellectual Community Seminar Series in the Corbett Building, Room 137. Free.

Thursday, April 13, 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. -- The UW School of Nursing will host a variety of activities during Nursing Scholarship Day. All activities will take place in Coe Library, Room 506. Free.

Thursday, April 13, 3 p.m. -- The UW Department of Anthropology presents guest lecturers Ivor Janković and Mario Novak, both from the Institute for Anthropological Research, Zagreb. The team will present a symposium on Croatian archaeology in the Ag Building, Room 1030. Free.

Thursday, April 13, 6 p.m. -- UW’s Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources presents guest lecturer Samuel Western in the Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center auditorium. Western will discuss Wyoming’s economic future and how to develop the state into a thriving community. Free.

Thursday, April 13, 6:30 p.m. -- The UW chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma presents Mr. Wyoming, a male pageant show, in the College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. The event is open to the public, and proceeds will go to the Albany County SAFE Project.

Thursday, April 13, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music presents Vocal Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Ensembles I and II in the Performing Arts concert hall. Free.

Thursday, April 13, 8 p.m. -- UW’s 7220 Entertainment and Studio WYO present soul and funk band The Sextones in the Wyoming Union Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Friday, April 14, 2 p.m. -- Former World Bank vice president Kenneth Lay will present as part of the Sandberg Speaker Series in the College of Business auditorium. Free.

Friday, April 14, 5 p.m. -- Cowgirl tennis vs. New Mexico, UW Indoor Tennis Complex. Free.

Friday, April 14, 7 p.m. -- UW Creative Writing Program MFA students will read from their works at The Riflemaker, 201 S. 2nd St. in Laramie. Free and open to the public.

Friday, April 14, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music presents performances by the UW brass ensembles and Snowy Range Brass in the Performing Arts concert hall. Free.

Friday, April 14, 8 p.m. -- Planetarium show, “Tonight’s Sky: A Different View.” A free STAR Observatory tour (weather dependent) follows at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204.

Friday, April 14, 8:30 p.m. -- This Just In, a UW improv troupe, will perform in Crane Studio in the Performing Arts Center. Free.

Saturday, April 15, 10:30 a.m. -- The Wyoming Honors Organization will host an Easter egg hunt for children ages 0-12 in Prexy’s Pasture and the Wyoming Union Ballroom. Free.

Saturday, April 15, 11 a.m. -- Planetarium show, “Easter Eggs in Space.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204.

Saturday, April 15, noon -- Cowgirl tennis vs. Air Force, UW Indoor Tennis Complex. Free.

Saturday, April 15, 6 p.m. -- The UW International Student Association will host an international talent and fashion show in the Arts and Sciences auditorium. Free.

Saturday, April 15, 7 p.m. -- The UW chapter of Sigma Alpha will host a barn dance in the Cliff and Martha Hansen Livestock Teaching Arena. The event is open to the public.

Saturday, April 15, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music presents the Happy Jacks in concert in the Performing Arts concert hall. Free.
