The popular interactive, improvisational musical comedy Broadway’s Next H!T Musical (BNHM) closes the University of Wyoming’s Cultural Programs spring semester season Friday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.

Tickets cost $23 for the public; $19 for senior citizens, UW faculty and staff; and $10 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

To help hype their Laramie appearance, a couple of BNHM cast members produced a hilarious video that mentions Ames Monument and the original local band Teenage Bottlerocket. But, the pair have trouble pronouncing “Vedauwoo” for a planned trek to the popular hiking area. The video can be seen here: https://vimeo.com/211501380.

This is the first time a musical theater improv comedy production has been scheduled for UW Cultural Programs, says Janelle Fletcher, the program’s director.

“Every song is fresh. Every scene is new. Every night is different,” Fletcher says. “It’s all improvised, and it’s all funny.”

BNHM is the only unscripted theatrical awards show. It’s a show for the people, by the people. No one knows what musical will be performed because it is up to the audience, she adds. The audience creates song titles, and the performers improvise a show based on the titles they pick from a fishbowl.

According to BNHM’s promotional website, the production is described as: “Master improvisers gather made-up hit song suggestions from the audience and create a spontaneous evening of music, humor and laughter. The audience votes for their favorite song and watches as the cast turns it into a full-blown improvised musical, complete with memorable characters, witty dialogue and plot twists galore.”

Each performance of BNHM is unique; even the piano player is improvising. The show also is a family-friendly event, meant for all ages. BNHM has been seen at The Triad, Tribeca Film Festival and at the New York Musical Theater Festival.

TheaterWeek hailed the show as “brilliant,” and The New York Post called Broadway’s Next H!T Musical “remarkable.”
