Campus Construction Update for May 7

These are among the construction activities scheduled May 7-13 at the University of Wyoming:

Colder Weather Advisory (UW Operations) -- UW Operations asks building occupants to assist with ensuring buildings and facilities are safe and secure. Make sure all windows and doors are completely closed with windows latched at the end of each day, and report any doors or windows that you are unable to close and secure to the Service Desk (766-6225).

Snow Removal (UW Operations) -- Crews will remove snow as needed throughout the season. Watch for snow-removal equipment; be careful and safe during snow events. Call the Service Desk (766-6225) to report icy spots and problem areas.

UW Operations reports the following activities for the week:

UW Campus Irrigation Systems (Plumbing Shop, UW Operations) -- UW Operations will energize yard irrigation systems from April 17-May 26. Please use caution, as some sidewalks may be slippery and wet.

Education Building (Arcon Inc., Laramie; August 2017) -- Construction is ongoing for the Education Building window replacement project. The next batch of windows to be replaced will be on the north side of the building. Construction fence has been established on the north side. This work will begin once school is finished. Replacement of these windows is expected to improve energy efficiency and occupant comfort. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

High Bay Research Facility (Haselden Wyoming Constructors, Laramie; substantial completion Jan. 4, 2017) -- Construction of the building is substantially complete, with resolution of punch-list and warranty items ongoing. Installation of owner-provided laboratory equipment continues. Completion of landscaping work is underway. Laboratory personnel and equipment moves are scheduled for completion in early summer.

Wyoming State Vet Lab Renovations (BSL-3) (General contractor Sampson Construction, Cheyenne; June 2017) -- Finishing framing and production drywall are underway. Be cautious around heavy equipment.

Arena-Auditorium Addition and Renovations (General contractor Sletten Construction of Wyoming Inc., Cody; October 2017) -- The project includes an addition to the east side of the building, which will provide a new major façade to the facility. The concourse will be renovated to provide improved concession areas, merchandise areas, restrooms, way finding and an upgraded appearance. A new central ticket office will be created to serve the A-A as well as War Memorial Stadium. A concession commissary will be developed within the southeast portion of the addition to serve the A-A, War Memorial Stadium and other athletics events. A limited-use elevator will be installed to provide access for patrons seated on or near the arena floor. A new smoke evacuation system also will be installed within the facility. Parking on the east side of the building will be blocked for the project duration. Painting and demolition activities inside the concourse are ongoing. Steel erection continues. Access to the A-A is closed. Be cautious of equipment, vehicles and construction crews in the area.

Mick and Susie McMurry High Altitude Performance Center (Construction manager at risk GE Johnson Construction Wyoming LLC, Jackson; June 2018) -- Steel erection for the building is complete, and interior and exterior framing operations are in progress. Masonry work has begun on the east elevation. The north side of the football field and the sidewalk to the north of the Rochelle Athletics Center will remain the only pedestrian paths from the east to the west across the north of the stadium until late August. Gates 6 and 8 will remain closed until the exterior site work and hardscapes are complete. Access to War Memorial Fieldhouse and the Arena-Auditorium via the north end of the field can only be achieved via Gate 4 during games and events. All other pedestrian access routes are indicated by traffic control barricades and signs. Access between the Rochelle Athletics Center and the Indoor Practice Facility has recently been restored. Site utility work, including the installation of steam lines and chilled water lines, is in progress. This includes open excavations, staging areas and equipment in the Visual Arts parking lot and the landscape area to the west of the American Heritage Center. Please use caution when in or near these areas.

Physical Sciences Building (UW Operations, Paint Shop) -- Painting of interior public spaces is underway. Painters will focus on paintable corridors and stairwells. Painting will take a few weeks. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Spanish Walk Building “D” (UW Operations, Paint Shop) -- Renovation of apartments D28 and D18 began in March. The process is expected to take a few weeks. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts (General contractor Sampson Construction, Cheyenne; April 2017) -- Landscaping work on the south side is expected to begin once the weather warms. Please be cautious of crews and equipment around this area.

Engineering Education and Research Building (EERB) (Construction manager GE Johnson Construction Wyoming LLC, Casper; spring 2019) -- Underground utility work is underway, deep-under-slab rough-ins are complete, and backfill for slab-on-grade is underway. Click here to see a map showing revisions to bus routes and street closures. Please observe all construction signs.

Red Buttes Environmental Biology Laboratory (Plumbing Co. and UW Operations; June 30, 2017) -- Crews are adding drain line and replacing sidewalk for better drainage. Please use caution around equipment and crews.

Agriculture C and Engineering Addition Buildings (Summit Sealants, Montrose, Colo.; September 2017) -- Summit Sealants will paint, caulk and conduct minor repairs to the exteriors of Agriculture C and Engineering. Please use caution around crews.

Residence Halls: McIntyre, White, Downey and Orr (Commercial Flooring of Laramie; June 2017) -- Installation of new blinds will occur in all “fishbowls” of the residence halls starting May 22. Please use caution around crews and equipment in these areas.   

Office Annex (UW Operations; May 2017) -- Installation of a new sink and garbage disposal will occur in the second floor break room this month. Please use caution around crews and equipment in this area.   

Biological Sciences Building (Colorado Hazard Control, Denver; June 2017) -- Abatement of the current carpet and installation of new carpet will occur in Room 37, starting in late May. Please use caution around crews and equipment in this area.   

Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center (All City Floors, Denver; May 2017) -- A recoat of the floors in the second-level MAC gym, racquetball courts and one aerobics room will occur the week of May 15-19. Please abide by all signs, and do not enter the rooms/courts until work is complete. Please use caution around crews and equipment in these areas.   

The following project is complete:

College of Law (Plumbing Shop, UW Operations) -- Installation of a new ADA-compliant drinking water and bottle filling station is complete.
