UW Commencement Activities Set May 11

University of Wyoming President Laurie Nichols, a retired law dean, and health care and engineering executives are among speakers at UW’s spring 2017 commencement ceremonies.

Commencement activities, including a few changes from recent years, have been scheduled. The most significant change is the movement of the College of Arts and Sciences ceremony from Saturday to Friday evening.

UW is scheduled to accord degrees upon 1,487 undergraduate students, 422 graduate students, 60 College of Law students and 40 School of Pharmacy students.

This year’s Laramie campus commencement activities take place Friday and Saturday, May 12-13. Here is the schedule for the individual college ceremonies:

Thursday, May 11

4 p.m. -- UW-Casper graduation ceremonies, Casper Events Center. Keynote speaker, Kendall Gammon, special assistant to the president of Pittsburg State University and Kansas City Chiefs radio network broadcast team member; faculty speaker, Arielle Zibrak, Department of English assistant professor; and student speaker, Jacqueline Bradley, English major from Casper.

Friday, May 12

6 p.m. -- College of Arts and Sciences, Indoor Practice Facility. No keynote speaker is scheduled.

Saturday, May 13

8:30 a.m. -- College of Health Sciences, Indoor Practice Facility. Keynote speaker, Gaurdia Banister, Massachusetts General Hospital Institute for Patient Care executive director, Boston, Mass.

9 a.m. -- College of Business, College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Keynote speakers are graduating students Anthony Farmer, Cheyenne, dual degrees in economics and political science; Meridian Riley, Alba, Texas, triple major in management, marketing and finance; and Timothy VanDreew, Evanston, accounting.

10 a.m. -- College of Law, Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts. Keynote speaker, Jerry Parkinson, UW College of Law dean emeritus and William T. Schwartz Professor of Law Emeritus.

11 a.m. -- Outreach School commencement reception, Wildcatter Stadium Club.

12:30 p.m. -- College of Engineering and Applied Science, College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Keynote speakers are Tory Bruno, United Launch Alliance president and CEO; and graduating student Richard Yang, Laramie, dual degrees in computer engineering and computer science.

1:30 p.m. -- College of Education, Indoor Practice Facility. Keynote speaker, UW President Laurie Nichols.

4 p.m. -- College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Keynote speaker, Bob Grieve, Heska Corp. founder and former CEO.

Thursday, May 11

6 p.m. -- American Indian Studies, Laramie Train Depot.

Friday, May 12

10:30 a.m. -- Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing Sigma Theta Tau ceremony, College of Arts and Sciences auditorium.

Noon -- Veterans Services Center ceremony and luncheon, Wyoming Union Ballroom. No keynote speaker is scheduled.

2 p.m. -- Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing Convocation, College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Keynote speaker, Robin Cole, Green River, UW Master of Science nurse educator candidate.

3 p.m. -- Multicultural graduation ceremony, Wyoming Union Ballroom. Speakers are Sara Axelson, UW vice president for student affairs; and graduating student Richard Yang, Laramie, dual degrees in computer engineering and computer science.

Saturday, May 13

6 p.m. -- Army/Air Force ROTC commissioning ceremony, Performing Arts Center. Keynote speaker, Wyoming Army National Guard Maj. Gen. Luke Reiner.
