Workshops to Help Manage Stress Offered at UW

Workshops to help manage stress and create a better lifestyle will be offered this summer to University of Wyoming students, staff and faculty.

The Wellness Center, located in the Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center, sponsors the free Big Sky workshops, a mental health promotion series designed to help people learn how to use mindfulness-based skills, including meditation, to manage stress and create more life satisfaction, says Lena Newlin, Wellness Center assistant director.

The workshops are free, but registration is required by signing up through the Wellness Center at wellness@uwyo.edu or by calling 766-WELL.

Workshops will be held in Room 117 of Half Acre. The schedule is:

-- May/June workshop series: Tuesdays from 3-4:20 p.m., May 23 and May 30; and June 6 and June 13.

-- July/August workshop series: Mondays from 3-4:20 p.m., July 24 and July 31; and Aug. 7 and Aug. 14.

“Commitment to participate in all four classes of the series is required,” Newlin says.

She also says the book “Wherever You Go, There You Are,” by Jon Kabat-Zinn, also is required for the workshops. The book can be checked out through the Wellness Center by using a WyoOne card; is available for purchase at the University Store for $16; or available for checkout at Coe Library.

The syllabus for the workshops can be found at www.uwyo.edu/rec/wellness-center/educational-programming/syllabus-for-big-sky-workshop.html.

For more information, call Newlin at 766-3418 or email lnewlin@uwyo.edu.
